Umred is one of the towns and municipal council of Nagpur popular to have people known as Halba who are weavers. Umred has more than 20 schools and colleges and homes Umred's Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary which has two divisions, Nagpur and Bhandara Division. These divisions are divided along the Maru River. There are many species and animals in the sanctuary such as Tiger, sloth bear, leopard, wild dog, ratel, Indian fox, wolf, jackal, and jungle cat, barking deer, wild boars, and spotted deers etc. The taluka has the largest employer Western Coalfields Limited that has 3 large open-cast mines having proximity to the town.
